Heather's story...

Growing up in rural Ontario, Heather had no trouble staying active as a child. Figure skating in the winter and bike riding and farm chores in the summer led to a full and healthy childhood. The country girl grew up and moved to the city to pursue her degree in Pyschology. Upon graduation she worked in social services with special needs children, hard to serve youth and the YMCA.  Skating and farm chores became rare events and she turned to cardio machines, the weight room and the occasional class to keep herself active and to manage work related stresses. During these years she enjoyed being in the back corner of the gym where she couldn't be seen.

Then came love, then came marriage, then came three babies in baby carriages. (nicely spread out over 5 years). Through out the baby stages she continued to stay active through running and group classes where she felt more and more comfortable closer to the front of the class. Armed with a desire to improve her own health, meet new people and get involved in her community, Heather became a Fitness Instructor Specialist.  After two years teaching classes independently she began working for the Town of Oakville. She currently teaches 6 classes a week that include Body Sculpt, Gentle Fit, Hi/Low and her personal favourite Interval.

In 2011 Heather became a Personal Trainer and began training clients in their own homes. She has grown this business to include training clients at their places of work and currently trains the employees at Nuway Software in Burlington, Ontario. Over the past few years she has witnessed the need for workplace wellness programs and is excited to work with other HR departments and employees to bring health and wellness to their workplaces.

In her spare time Heather has been a Race Director for Run For Wells which raised over $75,000 to provide wells for communities in Africa. She has trained and run multiple charity runs including a half marathon in 2013.  Heather is also active in her faith community and her children's school.
